Relationship: a connection, association, or involvement.
Religion doesn't necessarily connote relationship with God. In fact, I worked in a church office for many years. That religion didn't believe the Bible as the word of God, even though they identified as Christian.
In my experience, church, religion, has done more harm to the "Church" (being true believers and followers of God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.) than good. In fact, I have been crushed by a pastor in a church I was a member of for several years. You see, I didn't look the part, or behave like the submissive little church lady. I was disrespected, lied about, dismissed, to my face.
I haven't attended a church for a long time. Yet, my relationship with God through Jesus Christ has grown by leaps and bounds. Dogma: a specific tenet or doctrine authoritatively laid down, as by a church, (not the Church). When one is dogmatic, it is very difficult to grow in grace and the knowledge of the trinity as a person.
I have been a scholar of the Bible since 1984. I believe it is the inspired word of God. I also believe it is but a small fraction of who He is. Praying for Him to show me His glory, over the years has had a mind blowing affect.
"The Shack" is a book written by Wm. Paul Young, I have just now finished. I won't give away the plot, just to say it has opened my heart to know God more deeply. I could quote scripture to back up the premise, I won't. I would recommend it to anyone, especially those interested in a closer walk with our Lord. It has been made into a movie, which I have not seen as of yet. The book is definitely mind blowing.
Fantasizing the freedom to follow my Lord out of the box and into his glory!
