Tonight was our last regular game of the kickball season. We had several people not show up. It was a scramble to find players from another team willing to help us out.
We're out on the field, second inning, I spy one of the "no shows" meandering into the dugout. (Not the first time.) It was hard for me to be civil and still convey the problem their lateness caused.
I think, lateness is rude and inconsiderate. If you don't want to participate in an event, that's fine. Please don't commit and then behave as if you're doing me a favor to show up at all. To be punctual is common courtesy.
My daughter once called me from an appointment she had. "Thanks mom, for teaching me to always being early. Now I'm sitting here waiting." She was half joking and I get what she was saying. I have to wait a lot of times because I'm show up early. Being on time somewhere you are expected is a good quality and I'm proud that I am.
Fantasizing the freedom to get where I say I'll be, when I say I'll be there.
