All I know is, it's cold, the sky is blue and I get to wear my Venus turtle neck.
It's a new day. Everyday is different, even if you are a work-a-day Joe you will come across new people and circumstances. All, any of us really has, is today. Actually, this moment.
I think of a friend of my husband's, Kelvin, who, laying in his bed one night watching TV when a car crashed through the wall and pinned him up against the opposite wall. That said, not to make you afraid, but to realize ". . . tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has trouble of it's own." Matthew 6:34. As you can imagine, his life was never the same again. If you really think it through, he is blessed to have his life at all.
My point is, even when you believe you are safe and sound. . . crash, bang. That said, not to make on worry of fret, but to inspire us to live each day as if were our last. Love hard, live lively and be mindful.
This poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson says it better than I ever could:
“Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson, Collected Poems and Translations
Can I get an AMEN!? Fantasizing the freedom to leave yesterday, put away, love hard and live lively today.
