When the first step is a scary one, take it quickly before you can talk yourself out of it. Looking back, just from January, I've taken two scary steps and they have lead to such rewarding journeys.
Doing this blog was first. It took me two weeks just to figure out how to put it together. Now, it is blessing me in ways I did not foresee. Of course it is rewarding when others enjoy it. But first, it is rewarding to simply be doing it. The things I'm learning about myself, also the things God is teaching me through the act of putting it down in writing are amazing.
The second was stepping out onto the kickball field for the first time. Actually it was my first time participating in a team sport (aside from bowling). The biggest achievement I made that first game was remembering to run after actually kicking the ball. I did not get on base or kick a run in. Nothing spectacular to the naked eye. It was spectacular to me just to BE there.
What are you longing to do? What are you afraid of. "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." - Franklin D. Roosevelt. This is so true. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Fear is a robber of greatness.
Dale Carnegie taught; "Ask yourself: what is the worst thing that can happen?" Anything short of death or dismemberment, is not an excuse not to try. Most of the time, the worst never even comes close to happening.
Give it a try, whatever it is. Even if you "fail", you've learned something and made it easier to try and try again.
