I'm thinking now, just start. Do it like I do everything else of importance. One day at a time.
Whenever I try to project a project out, it goes awry. God only gives us one breath at a time, one moment, one day. Right now. So, for right now I'm not drinking. Can't say about tomorrow. I may not be on the planet tomorrow.
Today I'll spend 10 minutes meditating, 20 minutes exercising and moment by moment staying sober. So I guess I should just start the challenge and do it for today. OR even for breakfast! There's a concept. One bite at a time. Should I put this or that in my mouth? I guess I can wait until later.
I remember hearing about a man who wanted to quit smoking, which is one of the hardest addictions to conquer. He decided he would just wait a bit, every time he wanted a cigarette. For thirty + years, he carried cigarettes with him, just in case. Even though he, to this day, has not had to have one.
What is it on your to do or don't list. Could you do it, not do it, for 24 hours? For one hour? Most of us can. Do it right, just for today. If things are bad tomorrow you can eat, drink, smoke, shop, gossip, loll around. Whatever it is for you.
If there's anything I'm sure of, it is this; we all have our own escape technique. Whenever I'm tempted to judge myself or anyone else too harshly, I remember, we all have our demons.
It's when you think you don't that they are at their worst. Take a look in the mirror and see yourself clearly. What is it for you? Self centered much? Can you change it for just today? Be not anxious for tomorrow. Sufficient for the day is it's own troubles.
Fantasize freedom from your "maybe tomorrow" attitude.
