Most of us walk around with masks on, hiding our insecurities. Afraid of being found out. Feeling too fat, to dumb, too poor, too tall, too . . . fill in the blank.
All of us, (yes even the arrogant SOB's we think are full of themselves) feel some kind of insecurity about ourselves. I find it particularly interesting, the ones who express their insecurities out loud, are usually the very ones I think are a cut above. They just don't know it.
If you walk around thinking everyone is compassionate, fair, honest and hard working, guess again. More than once over the years, I've been gaffed by people because I couldn't fathom anyone being so low as to lie and slander another to get their way. The scripture tells us in Matthew 10:16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”
The problem with this is, as a Godly person, it is really hard to wrap your head around conniving worldly minds. The trick is to smile at them and their deeds. Romans 12:19 “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.
When you give someone a smile, no matter what they've done to you, you win. Everyone really wins. When we know that we know, that we know, God's word is true, it frees us to be kind to those who harm us. OR, those we may not understand or like.
Behind every hurting person, angry person, haughty person, is an insecure, scared person. A smile lifts anyone up. Even if you can't see it. Today I am fantasizing the freedom to stay calm and kind in the face of injustice.
