The power of life and death are in the tongue. Proverbs 18:21 (paraphrased)
You can use your words to build someone up or tear them down.
Growing up, a lot of the words I heard said about me, to me, were unkind to say the least. In fact, through a lot of my life, many ugly things were said to me about me. For a long time I believed all of if. One day, something deep down inside me, came screaming out; "STOP! I'm none of the things you say I am!" That day, my life started to change.
A word escapes the lips never to be returned again. It is so easy to speak a harsh word, it is impossible to take it back. My mother used to say; think before you speak. It is very good advice. Mindfulness can save a life if you apply it to everything you do and say.
Today, my mission in life is to edify others and myself. I wonder if you realize, what you say to and about yourself, is just as powerful as what others do. The things I used tell myself, things like; yours so stupid, ugly, fat, old, invisible. . . are all lies too.
Why do we allow ourselves to say things to ourselves, we would never dream of saying to a friend? It's time to stop. Be kind to yourself, for if you abuse yourself, you can't really expect others not to. A habit is hard to break, so replace it. When you find yourself thinking downgrading thoughts, change them.
Fantasizing the freedom to say loving things to myself and others. Change your thoughts, change your world.
