I have a friend, who, every time I call her with a problem or complaint, she tells me to make a gratitude list. Every time, I groan, only because I already knew what she would say.
The gratitude list is, by far, the best way to get out of a funk. Once, she challenged me to list 10 things every day for a week and don't repeat anything. It really got me thinking about all the things we normally take for granted.
I work with the elderly, many of whom cannot even sit up on the edge of the bed. This environment can make even the most hardened people grateful for: The ability to get out of bed, stand, hear, see, speak, take a shower, walk, etc. . .
It wasn't hard to think of 10 things everyday for a week, everyday period. Think about it. . .
Fantasizing the freedom to be grateful and happy, no matter what my circumstances.
