In 1974, my husband was injured in a warehouse accident. Over the years, his pain has steadily increased. He has had procedures, surgeries, chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, injections, electrical stimulators both internal and external, physical therapy, medication, etc. . .
Long ago, he was told there was nothing more that could be done. Learn to live with it.
When he retired over two years ago, he thought the pain would decrease. It did not. He has missed out on many, many, family events and milestones. He has missed out on life.
Last month, he went to see our family physician for refills of his meds. When he told her, he wasn't getting relief from the dosage, she said "That's it. It's time to go see a specialist again. Surely there's something now, to be done." Today was that day.
Sure enough, over the past five years a technique has been developed that can relieve up to 75% of his pain (according to the doctor). It was hard to read my husband's reaction. He was stoic, until he called his mom on the way home and broke down in tears. Tears of relief and joy. Tears of hope for the first time in many years.
Two weeks from now, life will change for him. For all of us. Thank the Lord! Isaiah 40:31 “But they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Fantasizing freedom from long suffering. . .never give up hope, God is faithful.
