I could make a list of all the things I've accomplished, simply taking the next step.
I was the chunky monkey in the corner of the play ground growing up. I so wanted to be one of the strong, thin kids. One day, many years later, I realized, I'd never get there until I got up, off my ass and started moving it.
I couldn't afford a personal trainer, so I studied and became one. By the time I was ready to take the test, I was fit, trim and strong. Everyday, getting up and out of the house, riding my bike, walking, lifting weights, a little everyday, took my body from flab to fab.
It was 2005, I was 48, when I finally had the opportunity to start college. As I passed each class, excelling at it and pushing on in the face of fear of failure, the dream of earning a degree became a reality. By 2013, I accomplished two degrees. Changed my life forever.
As my 50th birthday loomed over me, I decided I wanted to run a marathon before the big birthday. As I trained, it soon became clear I wasn't a runner. I adjusted my goal and completed my first half marathon in March, 2007.
I've published articles in magazines, even having a professional photo shoot for one publication. Now the blog I enjoy so much came out of my dream to be a writer.
I am so thankful and grateful to have the spirit of a warrior. So far, I haven't been a raving success at any of it, but I'm far from through. I have faith that all the diversity and apparent randomness of the directions I've been going will come together one day.
There are dreams I have not yet realized in full. One step at a time, I will get there. I dream of one day becoming a public speaker. Encouraging and inspiring others to get up and take a step toward a better life. I've earned Advanced Communicator status at Toastmasters International over the course of 7 years in the club. Success comes when opportunity meets preparation. One day a door will open for me and I'll happily walk through it.
Until then, I am Fantasizing the freedom to become all I can be and live my dreams.
(Congrats to Alvin Fall for his contract to produce beautiful art for the NFL! Such and inspiration. One step at a time, never giving up and living your dream!)
